There’s one question that instantly reframes burnout and shows you exactly what needs fixing. And it’s not: “How can I rest more?” Because rest isn’t the real problem. You’re addicted to being busy. You’re always in rush mode There’s always something more to be done. And the real question is: what is that helping you hide from? “She’s always on top of it.” “I don’t know how she does it all.” “You’re amazing.” Sure, but…also? You’re exhausted. Not exhausted in the traditional sense (you’re so used to running on fumes and empty that you’ve normalised that), it’s the exhaustion that comes from keeping on the move so you can keep running from the truth, from yourself. From the fact that you don’t want what you’ve got any more. You see, busy-ness is what keeps you from having to look too long in the mirror and see it and confront it. Because if you slow down, even for a second, you might have to face the emptiness you’ve been dancing around for years. Busy is safe. Busy is socially acceptable dissociation. Scrolling is your escape. It keeps you just numb enough not to ask the questions that might bring everything tumbling down. And, even more insidiously, you can even kid yourself that you’re ‘busy’ solving the problem. You can take courses, get deep into the world of personal development, and be busy looking for the answers you say you want. Which feels like progress and progression…But the reality is the answers you need aren’t in a course. They come from looking inward and, truth is, you’ve kept yourself too busy to be able to do that. But it’s time. It’s your time. it’s time to stop, pause, breathe and recognise that slowing down isn’t unsafe. Slowing down is where the answers are. “When I…… Then I……” The Trap That Keeps Us Stuck Ever caught yourself saying… “When I lose 2 stone, then I’ll feel confident” “When I feel more confident, then I’ll start my business.” “When I have more money, then I’ll invest in myself.” “When I’m less busy, then I’ll make time for the things I love.” “When I have more energy, then I’ll exercise.” “When I’ve learned more, then I’ll put myself out there.” These are definitely the stories I used to tell myself ALL THE TIME! When I lose this weight, then I’ll feel confident. When I’ve done this course, then I’ll be ready to get myself out there. When I hit 6 figures, then I’ll feel successful! But what happens when we get there? Often… nothing. Because the goalposts just move. That’s what happened for me. I lost the weight and I still felt the fear of being seen and rejected. I did all the courses and I still hid, I hit 6 figures and I just felt exhausted😭 The confidence, joy, and ease I was waiting for, didn’t magically appear. Instead, I set a new target, another “when I…” and keep myself in a cycle of waiting and wanting. Sound familiar???? But what if we didn’t wait? What if we allowed ourselves to feel confident now? 3 Top Tips for making it through the Summer Holidays..... 1. Create a Balanced Routine: Plan a variety of activities to keep the kids engaged, such as outings, playdates, educational games, and creative projects and balance structured activities with free play to prevent boredom and overstimulation and quiet time to enable them to wind down at the end of their day. 2. Encourage Independent Play and Learning: Create different 'stations' at home with activities like arts and crafts, puzzles, building blocks, and books. Rotate these activities to keep them interesting. Encourage your children to explore new hobbies or interests. Provide resources like science kits, art supplies, or musical instruments to foster independent learning and creativity. 3. Take Care of Your Own Well-being: Plan regular breaks for yourself throughout the day. Use this time to relax, read, exercise, or do something you enjoy. Short, frequent breaks will help you recharge. Don’t hesitate to ask for help from family, friends, or local community resources. What are your values? In business, in life, in relationships? I was working with a client the other month on their values in business. We're not talking values you cherry pick at any time. These are the values that are fundamental to your way of being, that are at the core of your heart and soul, that when you are out of integrity with these values, you feel uncomfortable, twitchy, frustrated, resentful of the world. My core values are Satisfaction, Freedom and Connection and when I am in alignment with these values, I feel strong, I have boundless energy, I feel at peace with the world and I sleep like a contented kitten! I also find that when I really lean into these fundamental values, everything appears to flow with ease and I feel a sense of calm and 'rightness'. So, when I hit those sweet spots of flow, calm and ease and I fall into bed satisfyingly exhausted, ready for an amazing night's sleep, knowing I will wake up the next day full of energy....that's when I know I am in true alignment of those values and on point with my purpose and goals. And when I'm not in alignment with Satisfaction, Freedom and Connection, that's when I feel profound frustration in every facet of my life and work. I feel uncomfortable in my body, my mind is restless, I'm tense, I don't sleep well and I feel like I'm wading through treacle every single day. Ring any bells?? What is mindfulness? Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and engaged in the current moment, aware of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment. 3 ways you could enhance your Mindfulness: Mindful Breathing: Spend a few minutes each day focusing solely on your breath. Notice the sensation of the air entering and leaving your nostrils, the rise and fall of your chest, and the rhythm of your breathing. This practice can help you anchor into the present moment. Body Scan Meditation: Lie down or sit comfortably and mentally scan your body from head to toe, paying attention to any sensations you feel in each part of your body. This can help you become more aware of any physical tension within your body at that precise moment Gratitude Journaling: Each day, you could write down three things you are grateful for. Reflect on why you are grateful for these things and how they impact your life. This practice can shift your focus to positive aspects of your life and increase your attention to the good things around you. Doing just 1 or 2 of these can enable you to be in the present moment and contribute to your overall wellbeing.
